Earth Adventures Summer Camp Counselors – 4 Positions

Application Deadline: Applications due by April 1, 2024

Wage: $15.00/hour

Terms of Positions: May 24 through August 2, 2024. 40 hours per week Monday through Friday. Schedules may include working early mornings and evenings.

Duties: Assist with planning, developing, and facilitating the Earth Adventures and Adventure Club summer programs for participants ranging from ages 5-12. May include assisting with additional camps and some programming for the public. See Full Job Description.

Qualifications: Minimum age 18, a valid Illinois driver’s license, and good driving record. Must successfully complete a drug screen and criminal background check. Must have enthusiasm for working with children and possess excellent public speaking skills. Some college education in a related field is desirable, but not required.

Seasonal Site Keeper

This position provides excellent opportunities to work outdoors maintaining the facilities in the Macon County Conservation District’s conservation areas.

The five conservation areas are well attended by the public. They include miles of hiking trails, fishing ponds, picnic shelters, numerous public and educational programs, and Friends Creek Conservation Area contains a campground. All of these features require regular upkeep.

Seasonal Site Keeper for Sand Creek Conservation Area – 1 Position

Seasonal or Intern Interpreter

Application Deadline: Applications due by Friday, March 29, 2024
Wage: $15/hour

Terms of Position: June through mid-August. Up to 40 hours per week. Work week is Monday through Friday with alternating weekend duty.

Duties: The Seasonal or Intern Interpreter will develop and present programs on the natural and cultural history of Macon County. This includes but is not limited to: presenting public tours at Homestead Prairie Farm every other weekend during open houses; developing and leading the District’s History Camp with the Historic Sites’ Intern; leading nature and history programs for local libraries, school groups, scout groups, and more; assisting with other camps and activities; and other interpretive duties as needed. Qualifications: Graduation from, or current enrollment in a biology, wildlife, ecology, zoology, history, museum, education, or other relevant program at an accredited college or university is preferred, but not required. Valid driver’s license and clean driving history. Must successfully complete a drug screen and criminal background check. If applying as an intern, official internship status is not required but encouraged.

Weekend Naturalist

A Weekend Naturalist job opening is available within the Macon County Conservation District. Naturalists develop and present educational programming for youth and adults, greet visitors, and provide assistance and information to the public.

Application Deadline: Applications due by March 15, 2024
Compensation: $15/hour

Terms of Position: Permanent part-time position for 2-4 weekend days per month. Schedule will be 8.5 hours per day for any Saturdays worked, and 4.5 hours per day on any Sundays worked.

Qualifications: Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two year college or technical school, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a field of study that includes biology, forestry, history, zoology, botany, or environmental education. Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license. Successful completion of a background check and drug screen.
