Earth Adventures Summer Camp Counselors – 3 Positions

Application Deadline: Applications due by March 31, 2020
Wage: $10.00/hour

Terms of Positions: May 26 through August 14, 2019. Each position is 40 hours per week. Monday through Friday. Schedules may include working early mornings and evenings.

Duties: Assist with planning, developing, and facilitating the Earth Adventures and Adventure Club summer programs for participants ranging from ages 5-12. May include assisting with additional camps and some programming for the public. See Full Job Description.

Qualifications: Minimum age 18, a valid Illinois driver’s license, and good driving record. Must successfully complete a drug screen and criminal background check. Must have enthusiasm for working with children and possess excellent public speaking skills. Some college education in a related field is desirable, but not required.

Site Technician at Friends Creek Conservation Area – 1 Position

A full time Site Technician position open at Friends Creek Conservation Area, near Argenta, IL. The selected candidate will be self-motivated with a well-rounded knowledge of park and conservation practices, as well as equipment and facility maintenance experience.

Compensation: Salary $33,000-$34,500 and full benefit package including retirement pension and health insurance.

Terms of Position: Full time, 40 hours per week. Outdoor, year-round duties in all weather. Will include limited evening and weekends duties as needed.

Duties: Under direction of the Unit Supervisor, the Site Technician performs daily maintenance of grounds, facilities, equipment, and vehicles. Site Technicians engage in extensive use of heavy equipment including use of chainsaws, tractors and mowers of various sizes, and other equipment as needed. See Full Job Description.

Qualifications: Prefer BS degree in horticulture, forestry, restoration ecology, parks and recreation, or related field, and two years of experience in a related position. High School certificate and 3-5 years related experience acceptable. Experience with the use, and repair of chainsaws, tractors, light to heavy equipment, mowers, and brush cutters a plus. Experience in any of the following also a plus: light carpentry, electric, plumbing, mechanics, masonry, and welding. Candidates shall have the following or the ability to acquire within 90 days of hire: a current Pesticide Operators License, a valid Illinois Driver’s License (CDL-Class A), and current First Aid and CPR certificates. Must possess a good driving record, and successfully complete a drug screen and criminal background check.

Natural Resources Technician – 1 Position

A full time Natural Resources Technician position open. The selected candidate will be self-motivated with a well-rounded knowledge of applied and theoretical ecological restoration practices.

Compensation: Salary $33,000-$36,000 and full benefit package including retirement pension and health insurance.

Terms of Position: 40 hours per week. May include some weekends and occasional evening duties. District provided housing (house and utilities) possible.

Duties: Under direction of the Natural Resources Specialist, performs a wide variety of assigned and self-initiated tasks and projects designed to improve the ecological health of Conservation District lands. Qualifications: Four year degree, or equivalent, with major courses in Natural Resource Management, Restoration, Ecology, Biological Sciences or related field and two years of experience in natural resource work. Knowledge and experience working with the principles, practices, and techniques of natural resource management as applied to Illinois ecosystems. Experience in safe operation and maintenance of chainsaws and other power equipment, vehicles, and tractors is a must. Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License (CDL Class A). Candidates must have or be able to obtain within six months of hire: a current Illinois Pesticide Operator’s License, a completed Midwest Ecological Prescription Burn Crew Member Training (or NWCG S130, S190, or equivalent prescribed fire training). Must have current First Aid and CPR certificates, or the ability to acquire them within 90 days of hire. Must possess a good driving record, and successfully complete a drug screen and criminal background check.

Part-Time Custodian

Terms of Position: Part-time position for 30 hours per week. Must be willing to work weekends and some evenings.
