Rock Springs Nature Center
Thursday, Jul 7, 2022
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join Joe Norton of the Decatur Camera Club for this four-session photography workshop. Participants will learn how to use their cameras, how to plan for the best photographic results in the outdoors and receive hands-on instruction.  Some cameras will be available for use if you don’t have your own.  This workshop is geared towards beginner and intermediate photographers, but photographers of all skill levels are welcome to join.  An optional Photography Walk after the workshop concludes is also planned. Participants can register for any one of the following sessions or all four. All learning materials used in the course will be made available to participants as PDF files after the course sessions.

July 7:  Introduction to Photography and Your Camera as a Tool. If your camera is a tool, then we need to learn how to use it! This session will cover everything you need to know about your camera’s capabilities and controls, and how to use them.

July 14:  If Your Camera is a Tool, then What is a Photographer? This session will expand upon what you learned in session 1 and teach you how to see and compose visual elements in your scenes before you “shoot” or take a photograph. We will also discuss time-tested guidelines for composing your images, the use of “aspect ratios” in composition and printing, and how to crop your photos for visual impact to help tell the story of your photograph.

July 21:  Wildlife and Nature Photography – The Six Most Important Things to Capture Successful Photographs.  This session will focus on six things you can do to help make your photographs something you will want to share and display, and how to avoid the one thing that will cause your photographs to be a failure.

August 4:  Wildlife and Nature Photography Subjects, Locations in Macon County and Illinois, Planning, Tips, and Ethics in Nature Photography.

Class will be held Thursdays, July 7, 14, 21, and August 4, 6-8pm.

Free. Register online by July 6.
