Natural Resources Manager

The Macon County Conservation District has a full time Natural Resources Manager position open. The selected candidate will be self-motivated with a well-rounded knowledge of applied and theoretical ecological restoration practices.

Compensation: Salary Range $55,000 – $60,000 (DOQ) with a full benefit package, including retirement pension, dental, optical and health insurance.

Terms of Position: Full time, 40 hours per week. Outdoor, year-round duties in all weather. Will include limited evening and weekends duties as needed.

Duties: Under general direction of the Director of Operations, this position performs a wide variety of assigned and self-initiated tasks and projects designed to improve the ecological health of Conservation District lands. Work involves planning, directing, and participating in natural resource activities requiring the coordination of work between assigned personnel, departments, volunteers, consultants, and contractors. Qualifications: Four year degree with major courses in Natural Resource Management, Restoration, Ecology, Biological Sciences or related field and three years’ experience in natural resource work. One year of supervisory experience. Knowledge and experience working with the principles, practices, and techniques of natural resource management as applied to Illinois ecosystems. Ability to identify the flora and fauna of Central Illinois. Experience in operating and maintaining the tools essential to natural area stewardship. Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license — CDL Class A and a current Illinois Pesticide Applicators License. Must have an Illinois Prescribed Burn Manager Certification. Must possess Geographic Information System certification.

Seasonal Site Keeper

This position provides excellent opportunities to work outdoors maintaining the facilities in the Macon County Conservation District’s conservation areas.

The five conservation areas are well attended by the public. They include miles of hiking trails, fishing ponds, picnic shelters, numerous public and educational programs, and Friends Creek Conservation Area contains a campground. All of these features require regular upkeep.

Seasonal Site Keeper for Griswold Conservation Area – 1 Position

Terms of Position: April through October 2024. Schedule includes Part-time, approximately 20-30 hours per week Monday through Friday. Requires some weekend availability.
