Senior Program Naturalist
A full time Senior Program Naturalist job opening is available within the Macon County Conservation District. This naturalist position assists with planning, organizing, and coordinating nature-based and cultural education programs.

Compensation: Starting salary $38,500 – $42,500
Terms of Position: Permanent, full time position, from 8am to 5pm. May include some evenings and weekends.

Qualifications: Knowledge of the theory, principles, natural sciences, land stewardship, and environmental educational programming and techniques, interpretation of ecological concepts, land and wildlife management, local flora and fauna, geology, and current environmental issues. Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in the natural sciences, biology, botany, outdoor recreation, or a closely related field in order to perform the necessary technical, analytical, and advisory duties of the position.
This position requires experience working with volunteers, organizational management, and supervision of staff. Must possess exceptional people skills, the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and knowledge of basic computer software programs and standard office equipment. Must be able to work with live reptiles, amphibians, and insects. Able to work flexible hours, travel to different work sites, and lead hikes outdoors, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Must possess valid Illinois driver’s license with a clean driving record. Must possess current First Aid and CPR certificates, or have the ability to acquire them within six months of hire. Must successfully complete a drug screen and criminal background check.
